Has this happened to you? The top has shrunk during quilting, so when the sandwich is trimmed, it now leaves exposed edges. I tried to pin it really well, especially at the corners, but apparently it wasn't enough.I've already fixed it, and am working on the binding now. But I was wondering what you do to avoid this sort of thing, and what you do to fix it.
Edited to add: I don't think I was clear when I wrote this post. This is the front of the quilt. I trimmed it by lining up my ruler on a border.

I'm sure mine probably does that too, but I tend not to be too exacting until its all quilted and then square and trim it all so no big deal....
Hello, don't be said! This new situation can be an interesting challenge for you. I agree with the above opinion:)
First you're supposed to swear in whatever fashion you save for these types of events, then you chalk it onto the page of learning experiences, then consider if you can trip it up farther, and after that? a slim border inside of where the binding will go?
I have learned to NOT trim that batting and backing ... I leave about an inch until AFTER I sew the first seam of the binding.

I guess I wait until I put the binding on too. I love that beautiful dyed fabric!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and that's happened to me a few times. Some times I barely have enough backing to cover the top so I have to pin then baste so I really don't lose any fabric in the quilting process. I do my best to go at least two inches extra on the backing to cover whatever shrinkage there might be.
