I think you've hit the nail on the head about modern quilts, but I might add that "liberated" quiltmaking takes it a step further, not worrying as much about rules but paying close attention to composition, color, and detail.

I love modern quilts! Haven't made one yet, but I've been collecting fabrics for one. I love your pink and white quilt!
I am not so sure I agree with your definition of a modern quilt.... seems short sighted - simplistic.... way too arbitrary for such a massive topic...
Do Nancy Crow and Victoria Finley make modern quilts.... I think they do and yet from your list it would seem they do not....
