Quilt Exhibit: Square Quilts

 

 

Hello! Welcome back to the Musee de la Grande Route. There are two types of quilts that can be called square quilts. One is quilts that finish to a size that is square. The other is quilts that are made out of squares. Our current exhibit is showcasing quilts that are made mostly out of square blocks (and a few rectangles). I have enough quilts to show you the square ones that I have omitted the ones that are made only with rectangles.

 

I believe this is my only finished quilt that is made only with squares.

 This quilt is made with squares and rectangles that are close to squares.

This quilt uses 10 inch blocks that are primarily pieced using squares of smaller sizes.

This one has pieced square blocks made mostly of squares and rectangles.

This quilt uses squares, most of which are pieced.

This quilt uses square blocks, some pieced, and some appliqued.

This quilt uses square blocks with more complicated piecing.

This one has more complicated piecing, but there are four square blocks.

 Another quilt made with square blocks with more complicated piecing.

This one doesn't start out with squares, but does result in square applique blocks.

 

This quilt has a border of squares around a panel.

 

I've made a lot of quilts with squares, and since I already have a lot on exhibit, I will refer you to this Trunk Show post from 2015 which has some more square quilts.

Quilt Exhibit: Animal Quilts

 

Hello! Welcome back to the Musee de la Grande Route. You are in for a special treat today. I am showcasing a specially curated selection of quilts of my animal (and insects) quilts.Some of these quilts have already been featured in the museum, but today you get to see them with new friends. 

 

A lot of these quilts were made for my rotating quilt collection, so they are seasonal. Wedding Wishes has lots of butterflies.

I enjoyed this technique for making the llama.

This one was one of my very first art quilts. I used dishwasher detergent to fade fabric to make the clouds.

 

This one is great for patriotic picnics.

This one was a free pattern.

This one unleashed my inner child.

 

Dog Gone Cute is a pattern by Lorna McMahon by Sew Fresh Quilts. I recently saw this pattern made with lots of dogs in bright colors.

A recent quilt about traveling.

This one is made with the same technique as the llama.

 

I still love the puffiness of the elephant on this quilt.

Not all pieced or appliqued. Some of them are a part of the fabric.  It has a bear and reindeer.

Quilt Exhibit: People Quilts

Hello! Welcome back to the Musee de la Grande Route. You are in for a special treat today. I am showcasing a specially curated selection of quilts of my portrait quilts.  In this time of isolation and social distancing, I thought I would show you some people. 

 

First off, here is Kamaria. She is fairly new as she joined our collection in January. I really like her unplanned chin.

 

Next we have the recently named Rose. I just named her, even though she joined our quilt collection in February of 2020. I like her unplanned jaw line.

 

 Fuschia Fairy joined us July of 2019. 

 

Debi also joined our virtual quilt collection in July 2019. She fits the theme with two pairs of hands and four smiling faces.The physical quilt resides with Debi.

 Eyes joined our collection in June 2019. I find it curious that I made so many people quilts in 2019. 

 

Vintage Holiday was made January 2019. 

 Rey joined our collection in December 2018.

 

 

Winter Scene joined us January 2016.

Elephant Quilt Exhibit

 

Hello! Welcome back to the Musee de la Grande Route.  You are in for a treat again today - a showcase of a specially curated selection of quilts. Today, I am featuring quilts I have made that have elephants in them. Long time readers who have already seen the quilts are rewarded with brand new photos they have never seen.

You may have seen this photo already, but it was in 2009 and it is tucked away someplace safe right now.

This one is from 2015. It is a brand new photo. I was able to use my brand "new" porch coffee table.

This one is from 2018. Another grand new, never seen before photo.

Here they are together so you can see a size comparison.

Well, that's it. Only three elephant quilts. 

In order to avoid disappointment, and avoid a revolt, I am going to break the rule that the quilts must be finished and give you a sneak peek into the works in progress room. There are plenty that also have elephants.

The Elephant Parade is still blocks waiting to be pieced together.

 

The Circle 365 quilt is pieced, but has lots more blocks to add before I get to 365(ish).

Both of these elephants are in the Quote Quilt which I have been showing you all this year. It's been a few months since I showed you these elephants though.
