Weaving

My sister invited me to learn weaving with her at the Cultural Arts Center. We could choose our own projects. I decided to practice on a piece someone else had abandoned before starting my own. I am having fun just putting random designs and random colors on it.

The teacher has to divide her attention amongst all the students (the five in our class, and the others continuing students who show up whenever they want), so we learn by watching her help others. Here the teacher on left, is helping a student front load the threads on the loom.  The room is full of looms - maybe 40+ all packed together.  I'll have to get a photo of all of them sometime.

How fun! I have always wanted to learn to weave and have only had tiny simple looms like kids use to play with. But oh, how lucky you are and I can't wait to hear all about it and see your practice piece and whatever else you come up with! Wrong screen name but you know who I am ;)

It's always good to learn new skills. Have a fun time as you become an accomplished weaver.

I have always wanted to learn weaving! Even before that I've always wanted to have a loom! How dumb is that! What would I do with a big ol' loom if I'd never even tried weaving? But sitting at a loom, hearing the chunk, chunk of the woof (or whatever that's called), watching a pattern develop... That seems like an ultimate calming pasttime. But do I want to start a new handcraft... No. And I suppose some non-quilters would think the same... Sitting with a hoop on your lap, watching a pattern develop. I'll be happy with what I can do. But I do envy you.
